On the afternoon of 1 March 2023, Mr. Shita Nishimura and Mr. Taiko Otake, Legal Counselors of Japanese Embassy in China, and Ms. Qin Yueling, interpreter of Japanese Embassy in China, paid a visit to the Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Center (“BAC”), and were received by Prof. Wang Yaxin, arbitrator of the BAC, Dr. Chen Fuyong, Deputy Secretary General of the BAC, Mr. Lin Chenxi, IP Director of the BAC, and Ms. Shen Yunqiu, Senior Counsel of Business Development (International Arbitration) Division of the BAC.
Before their meeting, the visiting guests were shown around the BAC’s hearing rooms, case filing hall, international conference hall and library, and received an introduction of the BAC’s history and auxiliary equipments for hearings and conferences.
During the meeting, the guests watched the BAC video, and then the BAC representatives presented an introduction of the arbitration legal framework in China, the usage of BAC arbitration by Japanese enterprises, the superiority of the BAC’s services and the exchanges and cooperation between the BAC and Japanese colleges. Also, the BAC representatives answered questions from the guests concerning the growth of arbitration caseload concerning Japanese enterprises in recent years, the way of cooperation between the BAC and foreign arbitration institutions and so forth. In return, the BAC representatives asked about the judicial supervision on arbitral awards by Japanese courts.
According to statistics, the BAC has accepted 41 arbitrations concerning Japanese parties since its establishment, among which 27 cases concern Japanese enterprises, and 14 cases concern Japanese individuals. The main types of such cases include disputes arising from sales contract, equity transfer contract, loan contract, technology contract and tourism contract.
