The BAC/BIAC Chairperson Mr. Guo Wei and his delegation visited the World Intellectual Property Organization WIPO

On 21 June 2024, Mr. Guo Wei, the Chairperson of the Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center (BAC/BIAC) and his delegation visited the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Ms. Heike Wollgast, the Head of the IP Disputes Section at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center received the delegation. The BAC/BIAC and the WIPO had a thorough discussion regarding the development of their respective institutions and future cooperation.

Ms. Heike Wollgast warmly welcomed Mr. Guo Wei and his delegation. As a speaker at the 2024 Geneva Summit on Commercial Dispute Resolution in China, congratulated the success of the Summit. She introduced the development of WIPO and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, including case statistics and projects that cooperated with China. She stated that the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center aims to provide efficient, impartial, and confidential dispute resolution methods for the intellectual property industry. The services are not limited to arbitration and mediation but also include domain name dispute resolution and expert determination. WIPO looks forward to strengthening communication and deepening cooperation with BAC/BIAC in the areas of intellectual property protection and dispute resolution to provide high-quality and efficient intellectual property dispute resolution services to the parties.

Mr. Guo Wei provided an overview of the BAC/BIAC and the statistics of the BAC/BAIC intellectual property arbitration cases. He pointed out that the BAC/BIAC has completed the institutional reform, and has formed the eighth Committee and the new Panel of Arbitrators. The BAC/BIAC is continuing to promote its development into a world-class international arbitration institution. Taking advantages of the capital city, Beijing is actively building an International Commercial Arbitration Hub (Beijing), as facilitated by the extensive legal and policy support in local legislation, judicial review, and immigration management. The series of the BAC/BIAC Summit on Commercial Dispute Resolution in China has been observed as one forum promoting the building of the International Commercial Arbitration Hub (Beijing), showing the latest legal practices in China and attracting more foreign entities to choose Beijing as their seats of arbitration.

In recent years, China has been continuously advancing the transformation and utilization of intellectual property to promote high-quality development. WIPO has rich experience in intellectual property protection and dispute resolution. The BAC/BIAC has also been committed to disseminating expertise in intellectual property and conducting associated research. We look forward to further deepening the cooperation with WIPO to achieve complementary advantages and jointly explore new developments in intellectual property dispute resolution mechanisms. At the same time, the BAC/BIAC also welcomes the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center to establish business branches in Beijing.

Mr. Zhang Junqin, Senior Consultant at the WIPO Madrid Information and Promotion Division, Dr. Chen Fuyong, the Deputy Secretary General of the BAC/BIAC, Mr. Zhang Haoliang, the Director of the BAC/BIAC Business Development Division and the BAC/BIAC Senior Counsel Mr. Yin Tong and Ms. Cheng Yiting participated in the seminar.

All disputes arising from or in connection with this contract shall be submitted to Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Center for arbitration in accordance with its rules of arbitration. The arbitral award is final and binding upon both parties.
