On November 12, 2024, during the '2024 Tokyo Summit on Commercial Dispute Resolution in China,' the Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center (BAC/BIAC) and the Japan Institute for International Arbitration Research and Training (JIIART) formalized their partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation (MOU) in Tokyo, Japan. This strategic collaboration aims to fortify cooperation and enhance the promotion of international arbitration within the realm of cross-border dispute resolution. Dr. Jiang Lili, the Secretary-General and Committee Member of the BAC/BIAC, and Mr. Shin-Ichiro Abe, the Chairman of JIIART, represented their respective organizations in signing the MOU.
According to the MOU, the BAC/BIAC and JIIART will capitalize on their respective professional strengths to engage in deep cooperation across several key areas, including the cultivation of international arbitration talent, research and publication in international arbitration, and the hosting of international conferences. Together, they aim to drive innovation, refine the international arbitration system, and foster knowledge sharing.
Upon this partnership with JIIART, the BAC/BIAC anticipates constructing a bridge for dialogue and collaboration between Chinese and Japanese legal professionals. This collaboration is expected to bolster the BAC/BIAC research prowess in international arbitration, propel its evolution into a premier, multi-disciplinary dispute resolution research hub, and support the development of high-caliber legal professionals adept in foreign-related legal affairs. Ultimately, this synergy aims to amplify the international competitiveness and influence of Chinese arbitration institutions.
JIIART Executive Director Yoshihiro Takatori and BAC/BIAC Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Chen Fuyong, among others, participated in the meeting.
