Domestic:

1. The 1st Beijing Mediation Forum Held, “Declaration of Beijing Mediation Union” Released
    On April 27, 2013, the 1st “Beijing Mediation Forum”, jointly initiated and sponsored by 16 mediation organizations including BAC’s Mediation Center, the Dispute Resolution Center of Intellectual Property Center of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Mediation Center of Internet Society of China, was held in the Culture Plaza, Renmin University of China. More than 150 participants from Beijing’s legal and business communities, trade organizations and mediation institutions attended this Forum and engaged in discussions with the theme “promoting mediation concepts, exchanging mediation experiences, sharing mediation skills and building mediation teams”. In the Forum, 16 mediation organizations and research institutes initiated the establishment of “Beijing Mediation Union” and officially released the “Declaration of Beijing Mediation Union”.

2. National Arbitration Forum 2013 Held in Beijing
    On April 23-24, 2013, the National Arbitration Forum 2013 was held in Beijing. The Coordination Division of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council briefed the participants on the nationwide arbitration work in 2012, and the participants had been engaged in discussions on six topics including problems in the development of arbitration and their solutions, scope of cases to be accepted for arbitration, ways of dispute resolution by arbitration, topics for the annual national arbitration meeting and other related issues.

3. Asia-Pacific Regional Arbitration Group Conference 2013 held in Beijing
    On June 27-29, 2013, the Asia-Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) Conference 2013, sponsored by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), was held in Beijing. Mr. ZHOU Qiang, Chief Justice and President of the Supreme People’s Court, attended the opening ceremony of the conference and made a keynote speech.

1.The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators launch new property disputes service

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) announced plans today to launch a new service allowing commercial and private landlords and tenants to settle their property disputes. This enhances CIArb's existing experience in providing alternative methods of dispute resolution (ADR) in particular, arbitration, mediation and expert determination.

”Arbitration Law of Sweden” was first translated from Swedish into English in 2003, and the Chinese translation was just recently finalized.
”Arbitration Law of Sweden” is a comprehensive analysis of the Swedish Arbitration Act. In his book Prof. Heuman extensively discusses the legal theory as well as the practicalities of arbitrating in Sweden. Starting from arbitration agreements in Sweden, through the commencement of arbitral proceedings until the enforcement of the award, Prof. Heuman analyzes the legal framework, relevant procedural principles, tactical tips, as well as the practice of Swedish courts.

3.Singapore International Arbitration Centre announces the appointment of new CEO

The Chairman and Board of Directors of Singapore International Arbitration Centre ("SIAC") wish to announce that Ms Lim Seok Hui has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of the arbitration centre commencing 1 June 2013. Ms Lim will succeed the current CEO, Minn Naing Oo, who will return to private practice.

4.(ICC) New rules attract international arbitration cases

The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) received 759 requests for arbitration and rendered 491 awards in 2012, the first year in which the new 2012 ICC Rules of Arbitration took effect.

5. The 2nd Annual Hong Kong Arbitration Week will take place from 21 – 24 October 2013.
