MSOD Project Team of Graziadio School of Business and Management offer their advice and suggestions to BAC Mediation Center

On March 2, 2011 and March 3, 2011, MSOD (Master of Science of Organization Development) Project Team of Graziadio School of Business and Management (Project Team) visited the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC) for the sixth time in as many years.

Prior to the visit, members of the Project Team had collaborated with BAC to prepare and design the focus of the study, namely, how to popularize BAC’s newly established mediation center, expand the mediation business and train mediators to a world-class standard. On this basis, members interviewed the Secretary-General, Wang Hongsong, in addition to some of the mediators and council staff on the foregoing issues, before offering their suggestions. The Project Team integrated BAC’s core competitiveness, an analysis of Chinese mediation and the status of the current mediation environment in the final study report.

MSOD is a Master’s program designed especially for business professionals with rich management experience, which enjoys a very proud reputation in the US. Most of its students are senior managers in US corporations, from a variety of fields such as finance, law, public relations and human resources. The Master’s program offers a focus on organization management and development, by adopting the form of a case study, selecting organizations of various types and at different stages all over the world as the study objects.

The MSOD project with the BAC provides a case study of an organization’s successful development, not only because BAC is one of the most rapidly developed and most successfully developed commissions in China, but, perhaps more importantly, BAC, as an independent dispute settlement institute, has exerted a positive influence on the wider arbitration community and society at large. Following extensive research and study of the BAC, the MSOD Project Team believe BAC has held a clear target and vision since its inception- becoming a global first-class arbitration commission. For more than a decade BAC has been committed to meeting this target, with continuous reform and innovation, learning widely from others scholars and institutes – both domestically and abroad, aligning its management with ?international best practice and perfecting its internal governance structure. Therefore, BAC has not only achieved great success within a short time, but has also acted as a driver for the development and prosperity of the whole industry.
