Between 15 and 17 of October 2023, the delegation of Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Center (the “BAC”) led by its Chairperson Mr. Guo Wei paid a series of visits to dispute resolution institutions in Hong Kong, and thereby had exchanges between dispute resolution institutions in Beijing and Hong Kong, investigated their experiences in institutional construction, established intents of cooperation and co-development, promote the Beijing international arbitration hub construction policy, and had planning of Chinese arbitration industry jointly with Hong Kong partners.
The BAC delegation has visited 7 dispute resolution institutions successively, including the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre, the Preparatory Office of the International Organization for Mediation, South China International Arbitration Center (HK), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Center Hong Kong Arbitration Center, eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre and Hong Kong Mediation Centre. During the visits, the BAC delegation had detailed exchanges and discussion with the 7 institutions on constructing of international arbitration hubs in Hong Kong and Beijing, strengthening the competitiveness of institutions in Beijing and Hong Kong, cultivating qualified foreign-related legal talents, enhancing the competence of international disputes resolution, well playing the superiorities of arbitration and mediation in China, and providing services to the Belt and Road construction, and also reached consensus on mutual supports and further cooperation between the BAC and the 7 institutions.

During its stay in Hong Kong, the BAC delegation attended the seminar themed “The Fourth Anniversary of The Arrangement Concerning Mutual Assistance in Court-ordered Interim Measures in Aid of Arbitral Proceedings by the Courts of the Mainland and of the Hong Kong SAR: A Review and Preview” held by the Supreme People’s court jointly with the Department of Justice of Hong Kong SAR. The BAC delegation also paid a visit to the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong, and had discussion on strengthening the academic exchanges between Beijing and Hong Kong.

This trip has promoted the BAC’s understanding of and connections with dispute resolution institutions in Hong Kong, and adoption of their respective experiences. This is also an opportunity for the BAC, based on which it will have further reform in accordance with top standards, and constantly build itself into a world class international arbitration institution.
